IT just wasn’t to be for Derry as Kerry proved yet again that they are kings of minor football at Croke Park this afternoon.
The young men from the Kingdom powered their way to their fourth successive All Ireland minor football title (thrown in at 1.15pm) with a 6-17 to 1-08 scoreline.
Kerry continued in the second half where they left off the second with Fiachra Clifford scoring his second goal of the day as Kerry raced further ahead with a lead of 4-09 to 0-07 after 39 minutes
But Paddy Quigg made no mistake from the penalty spot and Derry had their first goal of the game.
And on 41 minutes it was that man David Clifford again he netted his third goal of the match after scoring two goals and three points in the first half.
It wasn’t long before Clifford was teasing the Derry defence again before rifling home his fourth goal and Kerry’s lead on 50 minutes jumpedto 19 points with the scoreline at 6-11 to Derry’s 1-07.
And if Kerry weren’t scoring goals, they were scoring points, five in a row without reply from Derry and who trailled by 24 points – 6-16 to 1-07.
Derry got a late on consolation point with four minutes of added time.
But in the end Kerry, who scored another point in added time, were just too good for Derry and ran out deserved winners with a final scoreline of 6-17 to 1-08..
Well done to the minors in reaching the final!
