A PRISONER at a Co Derry jail who did a runner from a hospital where he was being treated has now been found, say police.
Victor Kennedy gave his prison guards the slip last night while he was receiving treatment at the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.
PSNI Inspector Frank Smyth said: “The 40-year old had been taken to hospital by prison staff for treatment to an arm injury when he made off from them at approximately 10:45 pm.
“He is described as being 5’9” tall, of a stocky build with a shaved head. He has letters tattooed on each hand that spell the words ‘LOVE’ on one hand, and ‘HATE’ on the other.
“He made off wearing a grey hooded top, blue jeans and grey trainers and possibly had one arm in a sling.’
A short time later, with the assistance of the police helicopter, police patrols on the ground and the public, Kennedy was eventually located.
Inspector Smyth added: “Police in Coleraine have apprehended the escaped prisoner.
“We would like to thank the public for their assistance.”
Kennedy could now be charged to make an appearance in court for escaping lawful custody.
He has now been returned to Maglligan prison.
