POLICE say its officers came under in Derry at the weekend while conducting a ‘sensitive policing operation’.

A firework and a number of other missiles were thrown at police vehicles in the Lisfannon Park and Fahan Street area of the city.
Chief Inspector Paul McCracken said: “Police had been in the area carrying out enquiries as part of a sensitive policing operation. No officers were injured and no damage was caused to any police vehicles.”
The senior officers called on those with influence in the community urge those responsible to desist.
“I would ask those with influence in the community to use it to bring incidents like these to an end,” he said.
“Those who engage in such incidents should also consider the impact on the community and the adverse effect that a conviction could have on their lives in the long term,” added Chief Inspector McCracken.
