Derry man Andrew Allen was shot dead by RAAD in Co Donegal in February 2012

AN inquest into the death of a  Derryman who was shot dead in Co Donegal by a dissident republican vigilante group has been told the Garda investigation is live and continuing.

Andy Allen was shot at close range by the republican RAAD gang in Buncrana in February, 2012.

An inquest into the death was held at Buncrana Courthouse yesterday abnd was told that the investigation is ongoing.

Garda Inspector David Murphy told the coroner’s court that there was a recent arrest in the case.

“Our investigation is continuing. There was an arrest in April of this year. The investigation is live and continuing and we are applying to have an adjournment,” he said.

Mr Allen was killed when a gang shot through the windows of his rented home at Links View Park.

A car, believed to have been used by his killers, was found burnt-out a short distance away.

Mr Allen’s girlfriend, who was in the house at the time, escaped injury.

There have been a number of arrests in connection with the case but nobody has ever been charged.

Coroner Dr Denis McCauley said he was pleased to hear the investigation is still ongoing and adjourned the inquest until March 14th next.

Gardai believe that some members of the RAAD gang had travelled over the border from Derry to carry out the cold-blooded murder.

In April, a man in his 50s was arrested over the murder and taken to Letterkenny Garda Station but was later released without charge.

Republican Action Against Drugs (RAAD) later claimed responsibility for his murder.

Mr Allen’s family have always denied claims he was a drug dealer.
