COMMUNITY SAFETY WARDENS FUNDING REINSTATED BY PSNI

CHAIR of the Derry and Strabane Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP) Alderman Drew Thompson has welcomed the decision by PSNI to reinstate their funding support for the Community Safety Warden Scheme.

Speaking about the PSNI decision, Alderman Thompson said, “The PCSP challenged the initial decision by the PSNI to reduce and subsequently withdraw support from the Community Safety Warden Scheme.

“We were supported in this challenge by our colleagues in the Policing Board and I am delighted that the Deputy Chief Constable has reconsidered his decision and agreed to continue to support this valuable initiative.

“The PSNI has now agreed to continue to fund the Community Safety Warden Scheme in Derry City and Strabane for this financial year.

“The Community Safety Wardens provide an invaluable service to our community dealing with anti-social behaviour and low level nuisance and continued support from PSNI will enable them to carry on providing this important service for our residents.”
