NIECE OF DERRY WOMAN CAUGHT UP IN LAS VEGAS CONCERT MASSACRE

A WOMAN from Derry has revealed how her was locked in her hotel room just yards from the massacre at a concert in Las Vegas.

At least 58 people have been killed and around 515 injured in the mass shooting.

But police chiefs believe the death could rise as some of those injured remain critical in hospital following the horrendous gun attack.

A gunman, named as 64-year-old Nevada resident Stephen Paddock, opened fire from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel with automatic weapons towards an open-air music festival attended by 22,000.

He killed himself as police stormed the room.

Inside, police recovered 10 guns Paddock had brought to the room..

In an address from the White House today, President Donald Trump described the attack as “pure evil”.

In a message on Facebook, Derry widow Ann Bond has revealed how her niece – who she described as her “second daughter’  – was only a short distance away when the shooting erupted.

Ann posted: “My niece is in lock down.

“Her hotel is 50 yards from the hotel that is under attack.

“There’s people lying everywhere on the street dead and the helicopters are out/.

“She’s freaking out. Her boyfriend went out to meet a friend and she was to meet up with him.

“She can’t get out and he can’t get in.

“She’s on her own sobbing away.

“I hope she is ok She is my niece but she is more like a second daughter to me.

“Please God pray she’s ok.

“Mad bastards that America.

“Her nerves are wrecked,” added Ann.

The area around the shooting is now said to be sombre as those who narrowly cheated death or serious injury count their blessings while other concert goers fight for their lives in hospitals across Las Vegas,.

The concert venue is sealed off with investigators treating it and Paddock’s hotel room as crime scenes.

Police are conducting a full investigation into the motive behind the senseless slaughter of so many Sunday night revellers at the open air concert.
