Earlier a man in his early 30s has died after an incident while hew as clearing a falled tree with a chainsaw in Co Tipperary.
The incident happened at around 12.30pm at Ballybrado, Cahir.
The man’s body has been taken to Clonmel Hospital.
He is the second person to die during the storm.
A woman in her 50s was killed in Co Waterford when a tree fell on the car she was travelling in.
The storm has damaged roofs on schools and businesses as the high winds swept into Cork and Kerry raging at 97 mph.
Around 385,000 customers of ESB have been left with power in the worst storm to him Ireland in 50 years.
Met Eireann forecasters expect high winds to reach south Donegal by around 5.30 pm this evening before moving north and north west.
All schools in the North and the South have been closed, with many employers sending home workers at lunchtime.
The Republic’s Education Minister Richard Bruton has announced this afternoon that all schools in the Republic will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, Ocober 16.
People in Derry are being urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary journeys to prevent any loss of life.
They are also advised to keep all pets indoors due to the severity of the wind.
