DERRY City and Strabane District Council will attend the Cool Route Project Partners meeting Glasgow Caledonian University next week, hosted by project partner GCU.
Cool Route – “Cruising Oceans on Latitudes above 51 º North” – which takes in cruising grounds from the South West of Ireland to Tromsø in Norway via the West of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the Faroe Islands and Western Norway, is widely acknowledged as one of the most unique and visually stunning cruising routes in the world.
It has now been named No. 1 of the six most adventurous destinations for superyachts followed by Antarctica, Madagascar, Borneo, Ningaloo Reef in Australia and finally Greenland.
Welcoming Derry City and Strabane District Council’s participation at the event, Aeidin McCarter was looking forward to a highly successful meeting of the Steering Committee.
“Derry and Strabane District Council will provide an update on the GIS based information and booking system for the route to the committee.
“The purpose of this booking platform, is to link local enterprises to their local ports, providing information to marine tourists on what’s available in the port locality, by way of food and drink, entertainment, things to do and see and places to visit.
She added: “Being a member of the COOL Route project is key to us in helping to develop our marine tourism. We boast some of the most stunning coastal scenery and should be showcasing all aspects of our unique tourism offering and the development of Cool Route will help us tap into new markets and establish our profile as an attractive and exciting new cruising ground.
“The Cool Route cruising grounds are among the most attractive globally, competing with traditional cruising grounds in the Mediterranean and other destinations.”
The Cool Route Project is actively encouraging on enterprises and businesses to register on the Cool Route.
The self-registration process is free, fast and simple to complete in a few minutes (www.sailcoolroute.eu) and includes automatic mapping of your location, details of your products and services and a direct link to your own business or community website.

Over the coming months, before the completion of the project, Cool Route will further engage with SME’s along the route and in particular the agreed selected stopovers to maximise the potential for local businesses in each unique region.
The primary objective of the Cool Route project is to bring new business opportunities to a wide range of small enterprises that provide quality goods and services.
