LOCAL art and archaeology will both come under microscope this Thursday, October 26, when two separate talks are held at the Tower Museum.
Firstly at 10am, the first in a new series of talks entitled ‘Your City Your Art’ will be hosted by Ursula Burke, an Irish artist who works in a variety of media including sculpture, embroidery and porcelain.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to engage the artist directly and find out about her journey and work,” noted Roisin Doherty, Curator at the Tower Museum.
“Much of Ursula’s fine art practice deals with issues of representation and identity within contemporary Ireland.
“We anticipate that demand will be high so pre booking is advised.”
Later that evening at 7pm the Mabel Colhoun Events Programme will feature Sinead McCartan, Director of the Northern Ireland Museums Council, speaking about the public value of archaeology to museums.
Sinead’s talk will focus on best practice on how we can preserve the past and promote our archaeological heritage for future generations.
“We are delighted to have Sinead come to the Tower Museum to speak about such a relevant topic in today’s society,” Roisin continued. “Particularly given her strong background and experience in this field.
“It is also fitting that Sinead is speaking as part of the Mabel Colhoun Events Programme, as Mabel was herself a trailblazer in the field of archaeology.
“We would highly recommend that anyone who has an interest in local archaeology should come to this event to find out more.”
The talk takes place at 7pm on Thursday 26th of October at the Tower Museum, spaces are limited so RSVP is highly recommended.
You can RSVP to both talks by e mailing [email protected] or by calling 028 7137 2411.
