DERRY HOME ATTACK: POLICE MUST CATCH ARMED AND HOODED THUGS

SDLP Derry Councillor Brian Tierney has condemned those behind an attack on a home in the Altcar Park area of the city last night.

Mr Tierney visited the scene this morning and has urged anyone with information to come forward.

A number of masked men, one said to have been armed with a gun, stormed the flat around 10 pm last night.

They trashed the interior, smashing windows and furniture.

A man in his 20s, who was in the flat at the time, was injured during the aggravated burglary.

Cllr Tienery said today: “There’s no place for thugs in balaclavas to be prowling the streets of this city, causing mayhem and fear for local residents.

“Those behind this attack in Altcar Park are callous criminals and should face justice.

“This is a large residential estate; this was a reckless attack that could have turned out even worse.

“Following the shooting last week, it’s critical that the PSNI gets a hold of this situation quickly. Hooded thugs carrying guns is a sight that no one in this city wants to go back to.

“I would urge anyone with any information to come forward to the police,” added the councillor.
