Sinn Fein councillor Colly Kelly

SINN Féin Councillor Colly Kelly has urged the Department of Education to ensure that school budgets are adequately resourced.

The party Education spokesperson on Derry City and Strabane District Council was commenting after 375 schools wrote to the British Secretary of State regarding difficulties in their budgets.

“Sinn Féin have met with senior departmental officials this week to press for school budgets to be protected,” he commented.

“Children should not have to pay the price for Tory-Dup austerity.

“Pressure from Sinn Féin secured additional resources for the Education budget in July and October and it remains our position that school budgets should be adequately resourced.

“We will continue to argue for additional resources for education,” added Cllr Kelly.
