POLICE in the North West say they are aware of reports surrounding the possible use of ‘key lock jammers’.
Derry Daily reported yesterday how the warning was first sounded by North West Locks and Mahon Engineering after it received reports from drivers the battery in the key fob were not working.
The business said:that crooks may be using “a FREQUENCY / SIGNAL JAMMER to stop the car from locking and therefore be able to remove items from the car as it will be unlock”.
A PSNI spokesperson has now said: “Police are aware of reports relating to the possible use of ‘key lock jammers’ within the local Strabane area.
“These devices send a remote signal that stops owners locking / opening car doors. In turn this may appear to indicate a faulty car key battery, when in fact the signal to lock the car door has been stopped leaving your vehicle open.
“Please, please, please ensure your vehicle is locked by physically checking the door handle prior to leaving your vehicle unattended.
“Also, police would ask that any suspicious vehicle activity is reported on 101 or for emergency incidents call 999.”
