THREE students from North West Regional College have qualified for the UK Worldskills Automotive squad after competing in the UK Worldskills finals in Birmingham.

Dylan Russell who achieved a Bronze medal in Refinishing, has qualified alongside Jordan Barlow who came fourth in Body Panelling, and Declan Porter who was placed fourth in the mechanical section.

They will all now go on to compete for a place to represent the UK at the Worldskills finals in Russia in 2019.

A fourth student, Eoin McCloskey, achieved a silver medal in Mechanics at the finals.

During the event the students demonstrated their knowledge and skills by completing online tests, participating in live heats and competing at an extremely high level.

The students received their medals from Glyn Evans from the Institute of Motor Industry who recently visited the college’s Springtown Campus

Raymond Bolt, Curriculum Manager, Motor Vehicle and Maintenance at NWRC, congratulated the four students and their lecturers Barry McDaid and Paul Harrison.

He said: “A huge amount of time and effort has been invested into mentoring and training these guys to such a high level.

“It is fantastic to return from the competitions with two medals, and for our College now to have three students progress on to squad UK. Well done to all.”
