MESH RESTRICTION WELCOMED BUT ‘FULL MORATORIUM NEEDED – LOGUE

SINN Féin Health spokesperson Councillor Patricia Logue  has welcomed a leading health watchdog’s call for the use of controversial mesh implants to be restricted.

She  was speaking after the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) recommended against vaginal mesh as a treatment for pelvic organ prolapse.

Sinn Féin have continously engaged with women injured by mesh and the Department of Health on this issue,” she commented.

“We have consistently called for a moratorium on the use of mesh.

“Whilst this news marks a considerable move in the right direction, a moratorium should be extended to cover the full range of procedures in which men and women are experiencing severe life changing complications.

“We will continue to work to ensure that those people injured by mesh have access to appropriate treatment and that appropriate action is taken to protect people from future injury.”
