DERRY face an uphill task in the second half to get back into this game and claw back an eight point deficit.

But for the next 35 minutes the Oak Leafers will have the advantage of a strong wind in their backs at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh (throw in 2 pm).

The Orchard County men opened the scoring after just three minutes.

The swirling wind made kicking difficult but Peter Hagan scored a free after nine minutes.

Armagh hit back immediately and after a succession of scores, the game is level at three points each.

A Rory Grugan free extends Armagh’s lead before Mark Lynch points for the visitors.

There were more scores for Armagh with Niall Rowland and Michael Stevenson kicking of the Derry bar.

Niall Toner stops the rot with a point with two additional minutes of time.

Derry go in at half time trailing 0-05 to Armagh’s 1-08.

Attendance: 2,506.
