The Foyle MP said: “Co-operation across education in the wider north west is key to the success and continued development of a first class education system across the region.
“I welcome the fact that moves to formally increase co-operation between further and higher education colleges and universities in the north west are at an advanced stage.
“This initiative will involve closer co-operation between the Ulster University, North West Regional College, Donegal Training Board and Letterkenny Institute of Technology.
“Increased collaboration in education across the north west will not only be of benefit to local students across Derry and Donegal but it will also help attract students from other areas, which will be a welcome boost to the local economy.
“This co-operation builds on the collaboration that already exists in health and infrastructure and I look forward to continuing to develop closer relationships in the future.
“I will continue to work with my Sinn Féin colleagues in Donegal to bring this initiative to fruition,” added the Foyle MP.
