TWO MEMBERS OF DISSIDENT GROUP SAORADH ARRESTED IN DERRY

TWO members of dissident political group Saoradh have been arrested in Derry.

In a statement, the group, which is the political wing of the ‘New IRA’ said the arrests took place earlier today Monday.

One of them detained is the Saoradh chairperson for Derry who was said to be on his way to visit his father in hospital:

They were held under section 41 of the Terrorism Act and taken to the serious crime suite at Musgrave PSNI staion in Belfast for questioning.

The statement said: “”The British Crown Forces have lifted two Saoradh Activists in Derry City. Emmett McDermott and Mark Canning (Saoradh Chairperson in Derry) have been detained, and it’s believed have been sent to Belfast for interrogation.

“Local Saoradh spokesperson Paddy Gallagher, strongly condemned the incident and said “it is part of a wider campaign against Saoradh, by the British Crown Forces in Derry”,

He added: ” Emmett was on his way to visit his Father in hospital, when he was lifted of the street.”
