A MAN who tried to give the police the slip last night in Derry was eventually arrested after he was found hiding in a shed following a chase on foot.
He was later taken to Strand Road police station where he spent the night before an appearance at Derry Magistrates’ Court this morning.
As a result, he has now been remanded in custody to Maghaberry prison.
This is how PSNI Foyle reported on the incident on its Facebooke page: “Ballyarnett Neighbourhood Team ♂ spotted a fella last night, we’ll call him Fred, sat in a car in Cornshell Fields.
“Immediately we knew he was wanted on Bench Warrants but he clearly DID NOT want to check in for a single room with breakfast at Hotel Strand Road
“He set off running ♂ like my wain caught in the biscuit tin ; he was down the road, through gardens and over fences.
“Fred must have thought he was further ahead than he was because suddenly he stopped and hid in a random garden Shed
“My hunch is that he believed he had passed the level, won a crystal and was now waiting in the Dome to collect as many Golden Tokens as possible #CrystalMaze
“We bluffed him and started shouting “I think he’s down there near the GAA pitch” (to no one in particular). This enabled us to stop throwing up, catch our breath and approach ‘the Dome’.
“Unfortunately for Fred instead of 100 gold tokens and a commemorative Crystal he received a pair of Handcuffs and a trip to Court ⚖️ via Hotel Strand Road.
“We’ve now upgraded him to business class at Costa Del Maghaberry,”
