RENOWED local artist Colin Davidson was in Derry this week where he spoke to a packed audience at the Guildhall about his work as part of the Your City Your Art programme.
The Belfast born painter’s work has been making the headlines in recent years for his dramatic large scale portraits of some of the world’s most famous celebrities including Brad Pitt, Ed Sheeran and even Queen Elizabeth II.
His compelling collection Silent Testimony featuring victims of The Troubles has toured the world, achieving much critical acclaim.
Davidson shared his experiences of painting cultural icons such as Seamus Heaney and Brian Friel, and told the audience he hoped to bring his work to the city in the near future.
The talk is the latest in the series which aims to bring people closer to art via the artists themselves, and make it more accessible as a form of communication open to all. Your City, Your Art is delivered by Derry City and Strabane District Council and National Museums NI as part of the Creative Community Connections project, funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund.
Future talks in the series will be given by Colin McGookin on Thursday 22nd February 10.30am and Carol Graham on Thursday 29th March 10.30am.
