The classes are suitable for anyone who can swim 100m or more and want to improve their fitness and swimming technique.
Stephen Graham, Service Manager at the Foyle Arena, encouraged any intermediate level swimmers to get involved in the programme, regardless of how long it has been since they were last in the water.
“The aim of the Masters Swimming programme is to allow adults who have some experience in the sport to learn more about the discipline and improve their technique so they can become better swimmers,” he said.
“Swimming is a great way to build endurance, muscle strength and cardiovascular fitness as well as maintaining a healthy weight, heart and lungs.
“Whether you just want to improve your fitness or you are interested in competing again everyone is welcome and it’s a great opportunity for many adults to rediscover the water.”
Opportunities for adults to return to competitive swimming include competing on your own in the Masters Swimming League and the Try a Tri initiative, a short triathlon aimed at beginner level athletes.
The Masters Swimming Sessions are from 6pm – 6.45pm on Thursday evenings in the Foyle Arena. Sessions cost £4 per person or are free to Council’s All Inclusive Leisure Members
