THE PSNI say two people, including a teenager, have charged over rioting in Derry last month.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers from the Public Order Enquiry Team at Strand Road currently investigating the public disorder that occurred in the Lecky Road area during the security operation on the 7th January 2018 have to date charged a 23 year old and a 17 year old to court for several public order offences including incitement to riot and riotous behaviour.
“It is far from our desire to bring any young person into the criminal justice system for these types of offences.
“We do need to make it clear to those involved in causing disturbances in our community and to those who encourage or manipulate young people to do this, that there are consequences that last, not only to the community but more significantly to the young person themselves.
“Our plea is to think long and hard before you engage in this type of activity.”
