FRESH CALLS FOR DERRY REPUBLICAN TONY TAYLOR TO BE FREED

Republican prisoner Tony Taylor incarcerated in Maghaberry prison

SINN Féin MLA Raymond McCartney has called for the immediate release of Derry man Tony Taylor as he approaches 700 days of imprisonment.

Tony Taylor was thrown back in prison in March 2016 by the then British Secretary of State Theresa Villiers on the word of MI5 who claimed he had breached the terms of his prison release licence.

Since then there has been a campaign to have him released from Maghaberry prison or put before a court and a judge to test the allegations made against him.

The Sinn Fein Foyle MLA said: “As we approach 700 days of his incarceration I repeat Sinn Féin’s call for the immediate release of Derry man Tony Taylor.
“He should either be released immediately or brought before a court and given due process.
“We have long campaigned for Tony’s release.
“His arrest and imprisonment without recourse to due process is a practice that is totally unacceptable and needs to end immediately.
“The continued use of unjust powers by the British government to revoke a person’s license without producing any evidence of wrongdoing is an affront to human rights and natural justice,” added Mr McCartney.
