SINN Féin MP Elisha McCallion has met with the Scottish government’s Brexit minister to discuss the need for the north to secure special status within the EU.
The Foyle MP said: “I held a positive and constructive meeting with Michael Russell, the Scottish government’s Brexit minister, who is visiting Derry to hear from myself and key other stakeholders in the north west about our concerns over Brexit.
“He listened to our position in relation to the absolute necessity for special designated status here in the north.
“It is very useful for him and others to be here at the coal face at the border region to hear directly from the stakeholders about how Brexit will impact on us a society.
“We agreed that these type of conversations need to continue.
“We concluded the meeting by agreeing on an ongoing engagement in the future to ensure we work collaboratively to protect our rights against Brexit.”
