The enhancements form part of a package worth £20,000 that will see the installation of new ball catches which will allow more games to be played at the pitch, including Gaelic games.
Cllr Tierney said:
“I was delighted to support the proposal to resource new ball catch equipment at Leafair pitch at today’s Health and Communities Committee meeting.
“This resource, worth £20,000, will enhance the sport offering at Leafair and throughout the wider Shantallow community.
“It will also enable the GAA to support more young people who want to get involved in gaelic games in this community.
“I’ve previously met with representatives of the GAA with Colum Eastwood MLA where they’ve told us that they want to do more to promote games in the area.
“We’re delighted that this will provide some opportunity for that development,” he added.
