SCORES of young people in Derry have taken part in a tree planting project in the city on Saturday.
Dozens of trees were planted at Culmore roundabout as part of the ‘One Million Trees In One Day’ project.
The project is run by the Trees on the Land a charity & not-for-profit project from the Green Economy Foundation
in collaboration with The Woodland Trust in Northern Ireland.
It says: “The One Million Trees in One Day project distributes large numbers of native trees each spring to hundreds of landowners across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland for our annual planting day.
“We hope one day to send out a million trees for planting.
“Every year since 2013 we’ve had a crack at the target and have fallen so far short that we decided a new working title – Trees on the Land – might better describe the project.
“Trees on the Land keeps much the same structure as before and as we approach our sixth season of planting we hope to continue to improve an initiative which has evolved into a seasonal fixture on farms and in communities across the island.”
