SDLP Economy spokesperson Daniel McCrossan MLA has said that the results of Danske Bank’s Consumer Confidence survey show that concern about the political vacuum at Stormont has leaked into confidence about the financial security of families across the North.
He said: “Today’s figures from Danske Bank show a significant sharp decline in consumer confidence to the lowest levels since 2013.
“It is a significant concern that over a third of respondents to the consumer confidence survey cited political uncertainty and the lack of a functioning Executive as the issue that had the largest negative impact on them.
“In every sub index rating – from job security to their future financial security – confidence has fallen since the last quarter, reversing a general upward trend since 2013.
“We cannot allow this to continue. Our economy is in a fragile state, job losses over the last number of weeks prove that point. It is the role of politicians to protect and enhance the lives of working people and our economy. It’s clear that parties must come together and get the deal done or face growing economic insecurity.”
