Supported by Derry City and Strabane District Council and in partnership with Arts Care, The Pushkin Trust and the Public Health Agency, ‘Let the Dance Begin’ is an inclusive arts, education and wellbeing project now in its fifth year.
This year’s project has been buzzing since last October with the fantastic participation of schools, community & health groups and businesses in the local area and will run until the third week of February.
Inspired by Seamus Heaney and the Pushkin Trust’s theme for 2018 ‘Opening Ground’, ‘Let the Dance Begin’ has been celebrating creativity, well-being & the creative voice through dance, drumming, poetry, art, up cycling and animation.
Everyone is welcome to join in the ‘Let the Dance Begin’ Celebration Walk! Be a part of the colourful parade led by Samba drumming and a wonderland of 3D nature sculptures.
Afterwards, people can also browse the Pop- Up’s collection of visual art and written word created during the project by local community groups and schools.
The evening will also celebrate the book launches of ‘Bella Bee’ – a children’s story by Maia Horn and ‘Tranquillity’ – a collection of poems created by the Hillside Writers, Strabane and part of a body of work created with Michelle Young, Arts Care Writer in Residence, Western Health and Social Care Trust.
The Pop-Up Gallery on Castle Street will also host creative workshops during the week 19th to 23rd February.
There will also be an amazing ‘Let the Dance Begin’ performance at the Alley Theatre, Strabane on Thursday 22nd February at 7pm.
This showcase of all the performance work created during the project is not to be missed and promises to be a vibrant, inclusive display of dance, drumming, poetry and much more!
Tickets are £3 from The Alley Theatre Box Office on 02871 384444 or www.alley-theatre.com
