POLICE say they are determined to tackle ongoing issues in Derry surrounding recent burglaries and those involved in serious driving offences.
High visibility patrols have been carried out in a bid to detect and also deter those involved in criminal offences.
PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page that officers from Local Policing Team 2 have been involved in the operations..
“LPT 2 officers in Strand Road have had a busy few shifts on nights this week.
“We know that you are all concerned about the recent an increase of burglaries in the city and the continued issue of anti social motoring in the Northern Estates so we thought that we would give you an insight into what we are doing to prevent and deter crime in our community and keep people safe during the night shifts this week.
“Anti-Burglary Op: We have been conducting focused high visibility patrols in the Waterside and Cityside area and have been on the lookout for any suspicious persons or vehicles.
“Anti-Social Motoring: We have conducted high visibility patrols in the Northern Estates and there have been no reports of dangerous driving/burnt out or stolen vehicles in the area during the course of the night shifts.
“We have conducted 7 arrests for Domestic and Dishonesty offences. 🏩
“We have located 11 Missing People.
“We have dealt with 30 Concerns for Safety. This is a large part of our role as it is our duty to try to help those most vulnerable in our community get the help they need when their mental health is affecting them in a negative way. We will always take positive steps to protect them.
“These are small examples of what the police in Foyle are doing to keep our community safe.
“Unfortunately we are unable to stop every crime from happening (until the Minority Report is real) but we want to reassure you that we are out on the streets showing a presence to deter these criminals from targeting our homes/our vehicles and our businesses.
“Please report any suspicious activity/ vehicles to police on 101. Sgt C.”
