Missing Michael McGinley
THE family of a Derry man who entered the River Foyle are encouraging the public to keep their safety first during the search for his body.
Michael McGinley is believed to have entered the icy waters of the River Foyle in the city four weeks ago.
The 27-year-old from the Gobnascale area of the city, was described as “a great soul and very quiet.”
Michael’s cousin Michelle has urged people to be very careful along the river banks.
Michelle said: “Safety first. We were out looking during a night time search last week when our dog went into the water.
“My partner tried to pull him out and then he went into the water as well . So we had to get Foyle Search and Rescue out to help him out of the water.
“I would urge everybody to be very, very careful.
People from Derry and Strabane have all joined in on the search searching multiple times a day in different tides.
“Michael was so kind to everyone, he has just been through a hard time in life.
“He lost his mummy and daddy just two years ago. He was just really heartbroken and his head wasn’t in the right place and his head wasn’t in the right place after they left.
“All we want now is his body to put him with his mummy and daddy, that’s where he wanted to be.”
