Police at Strand Road appeal questioning youth over attempts to break into homes and cars in Foylesprings area

POLICE have praised the actions of a local dog walker who helped officers in the arrest of a youth for trying to bring into cars and homes in Derry.

The teenager was later arrested for attempted theft of homes and trying to break into cars.

He is currently in custody at Strand Road police station for questioning.

PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “Thanks to an eagle eyed dog walker officers from Ballyarnett NPT and LPT located a male youth who had been reported attempting to break into homes and vehicles in the Foylesprings area.

“A good old fashioned search was conducted and some suspicious items were found in his pockets which meant that he was arrested for theft and vehicle interference allowing him to check into Hotel Strand Road in time to receive the early bird rate and who knows prevent further crimes.

“With your help we can catch these criminals red handed so pick up the phone and contact us if you see anything suspicious.

“We are more than happy to come and take these people away.

“Please continue to secure your homes and vehicles and look out for all in our community.”
