Public services suffering the consequences of Tory/DUP austerity – Mullan

SINN Fein Foyle MLA Karen Mullan says public services in the North of Ireland were suffering as a result of Tory/DUP austerity.

She was responding to news that schools will receive less money per pupil in 2018/19.

Schools have been told by the Department of Education to make cuts, some in the region of five per cent, which would see principal’s having to find savings of £200,000 in some cases.

“These cuts imposed by the Tory/DUP budget will impact on children’s education and heap further pressure on teachers,” said the Foyle MLA.

“It shows that far from being ‘additional’ the much-heralded DUP money is at best helping to offset cuts imposed by the British government.

“Rather than bringing an end to cuts the DUP has propped up a Tory government still wedded to austerity. Our public services, including schools, are suffering the consequences.”
