Mr Eastwood said: “For years now the SDLP has been banging down the door of the British Government and of the former Executive to deliver a City Deal for the North West. At last we have received commitments from the Government – but now we need action.
“The SDLP wants to see City Deals for both Derry and Belfast – but we won’t stand for regional disparity not being addressed. Revenue must go where it is needed not where the DUP decides.
“We welcome the commitment to City Deals but the British Government has yet to deliver.
“Moreover there are still big questions to answer over the decision making process in relation to new funds coming to the North.
“The British Government cannot be allowed to just buckle to the DUP’s demands – they must act in the interests of all peoples across Northern Ireland.
“Today in Derry we have heard from the SNP on how we make our plan for economic growth a reality – we are ready, now we all need to work together to hold the British Government’s feet to the fire and drive growth for the North,” added the Foyle MLA.
Mr Hendry said: “Inverness has benefited massively from a City Deal economically and socially.
“There is absolutely no reason why a city like Derry shouldn’t also benefit. In fact it would allow a neglected region finally the opportunity to progress.
“One key aspect of delivering City Deals in Scotland was the role of the Scottish Government.
“Our Government in Scotland made City Deals a reality not only by pressuring the UK Government but also by channeling funds into our cities too.
“It’s imperative that in Northern Ireland devolution delivers the same – so that local economies are not only supported but enhanced.
“The SNP is also deeply concerned that the Prime Minister thinks she can just cosy up in her secret committee with the DUP and shave off money for votes in Parliament.
“It’s absolutely shameful. While I agree money should go to Northern Ireland – it is fundamental that this money be matched for the devolved government in Scotland and in Wales.
“The Prime Minister must stand by her claim that the UK is a state of ‘equals’,” added Mr Hendry.
