POLICE in Derry say that its Northern Call Management Centre has been receiving an increased number of calls especially from the elderly about phone calls they have received from HM Revenue and Custom.
PSNI Foyle say: “THIS IS A SCAM.
“Thankfully the persons who have reported to us this morning have not passed on any personal details or money.
“However, there may be some who through one reason or another have been scammed and feel embarrassed to report it.
“Do not feel embarrassed, these scammers are faceless persons at the end of a telephone who appear very confident and full of factual details which they have more than likely obtained from the internet.
“DO NOT HAND OVER MONEY OR YOUR PERSONAL DETAILS.
“Now is a timely reminder to talk to elderly friends, neighbours and relatives about these things as it never goes away.
“Feel free to contact your local PSNI Crime Prevention Officer or approach any police officer for advice.”
