Enjoy a series of fun filled activities for all the family taking place at the Peace Bridge in Derry, (cityside entrance) from 11am to 3pm.
Organised by Derry City and Strabane District Council in conjunction with Sustrans, the event is aimed at promoting the greenways and encouraging people to get outdoors, get active and help improve their health and well-being.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Maolíosa McHugh said Love My Greenway is a fantastic way of showcasing the scenic greenway space that we have available across the Council area.
“The Council has invested significantly in the provision of greenway space across the City and District and it’s one of the core objectives set out in our Strategic Growth Plan to improve the health and wellbeing of our citizens.
“Our greenway network is already more extensive then the provision in major European cities such as Paris and Amsterdam and we will continue to build and improve the network as an alternative travel route and a means of promoting active travel.
“This is a really fun way of encouraging walking and cycling and a more active lifestyle with something for every member of the family to get involved in and enjoy,” he said.
On the day visitors can brush up on their circus skills and take part in some drumming workshops, or why not take advantage of the free bicycle checks and tips from experts on how to keep your bike in good condition.
There will be animated performers on unicycles and rickshaws throughout the day and an interactive pop up graffiti wall, or why not use pedal power to create your very own work of art?
Local food traders will also be on site selling hot food and local produce and local company Far and Wild will be offering a free Cycle and Food Tour at 11am and 2pm for those who want to see at first-hand what our local greenways have to offer.
Spaces are limited on these tours so anyone interested must book in advance by contacting [email protected] Tel:07775911198
Derry Bike Tours will be operating on the day, giving people the chance to find out more about the scenic routes they can take along the city’s most stunning riverside locations and historic city centre landmarks.
The Walled City Market will also be taking place at Guildhall Square from 11am to 4pm with a vast array of local craft and food producers showcasing their produce.
There will be balloon modelling and face painting and plenty of entertainment for the kids.
Anyone travelling to the event by bike is advised that they are entitled to a money off voucher that can be redeemed at any of the market stalls on the day.
Vouchers can be collected from the Sustrans Stall.
The event is also offering participants the chance to take part in a number of competitions to be in with a chance of winning some great prizes.
