POLICE in Derry have praised the public for providing the tip offs that lead to a number arrests in the early hours of this morning.
A PSNI Foyle spokesperson said: “Following a report from a vigilant member of the public in the early hours of this morning, a vehicle was stopped in the Waterside area of the city by officers from LPT1.
“The driver failed a roadside breath test and was arrested.
“Following a further procedure at Strand Road station, the driver was found to be more than three times the legal limit.
“The driver will now have to attend court and explain their actions to the local magistrate.
“In a separate incident, a vehicle was reported as having crashed following some erratic driving the the Galliagh area.
“Police attended and as a result two people were arrested by LPT1 officers on suspicion of a number of motoring offences and possession of controlled drugs.
“They are currently assisting police with their enquiries and the vehicle has also been seized.
“All this was as a result of members of our community reporting their concerns to Police.
“We would ask that if you suspect a driver is under the influence of drink or drugs, please report it immediately on 999.
“If the matter is not ongoing please call 101.
