Derry security alert declared a hoax

THE PSNI say a security alert in Derry in the early hours of this morning was sparked by a hoax device.

Residents were evacuated from their homes after a suspicious object was discovered in the Hawthorn Drive area.

Army technical officers attended the scene and examined the object and declared it a hoax.

All residents have now returned to their homes.
