‘EA must get a grip on financial overspending’ – Mullan

THE Education Authority must get a grip on its finances following another projected overspend in its budget, Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Karen Mullan has said.

The Foyle MLA commented: “The education budget is under real financial pressure.

“There was an overspend in the 2017-18 financial year and it is projected that there will be a further overspend in 2018-19.

“It is imperative that the Education Authority has the professional support that it needs to ensure that their budget and spend is properly managed.

“They need to get a grip on their finances and to, that end, I am calling on the Education Authority to appoint an accountant or financial specialist to be co-opted onto the Board.

“Such a process would be in line with the Audit Office Board Effectiveness: A Good Practice Guide.”
