SINN Féin Councillor Colly Kelly speaking as the formal consultation on plans to introduce a Residents’ Parking Scheme in the Bogside area of Derry has closed.
Councillor Colly Kelly said: “Karen Mullan MLA and I attended the public consultation event in Pilots Row a number of weeks ago. It was a very informative and well attended event .A lot of residents gave their views and sought out information about what the scheme would entail.
“We have also engaged with residents regarding their concerns. In fact it’s hard to believe we have been campaigning on this issue since 2007.
“The Triax management team have also been working very hard on the issue over many years.
“As part of the consultation Sinn Féin have made a number of submissions on the proposed residents parking scheme.
“There are concerns about access for carers and relatives, flexibility around qualification criteria for additional parking permits and guarantees there will be no cost for the permits.
“It’s vital that resident’s views are taken on board and that we get this scheme right from the outset and form a template that hopefully can be used in other areas of our city affected by chronic parking problems.”
