Invest NI should defend our economy from the threat of Brexit – McCartney

SINN Fein’s Raymond McCarteny has called on the head of Invest NI to stand up for the North of Ireland’s economic interests in the face of Brexit.

He was responding to research published by the Department for the Economy.

The Foyle MLA said: “Since the Brexit vote Chief Executive of Invest NI Alastair Hamilton has attempted to downplay the importance of access to the EU market for US investors, claiming that EU ‘market access is generally not an issue’

“However, as this research published by the Department for the Economy confirms, access to the EU market is ‘a core part of a location’s value proposition for US FDI’.

“Whatever his personal views on Brexit, in his capacity as Chief Executive of Invest NI Mr Hamilton should be asserting our economic interests in the face of Brexit.

“This includes maintaining unfettered access to the EU market,” he added;
