POLICE patrols have seized a large quantity of alcohol in Derry after a tip off from the public about underage drinking.

The picture shows some of the alcohol recovered from a tunnel at Madams Bank Road on Friday night.

PSNI Foyle say on its Facebook page: “Following reports from concerned residents Ballyarnett Npt  attended The Madams Bank tunnel on Friday night.

“As police  arrived a group of youths ran off through the tunnel towards Cornshell Fields.

“They grabbed what they could before scrambling off. However they left behind 26 bottles of  beer, tins of cider  and a number of bottles  of sports drinks and spirits.

“Some of the group returned to the area attempting to get the alcohol back . Police carried out a search of the area beyond the tunnel and located a bottle of wine , large bottle of Vodka and more beer  and cider.

“This upset some of the youths  and as you can guess we were not the most popular people in town.

“There is no doubt that given the level of alcohol on show and the age of those involved we have prevented harm or injury  to your children.

“Together we have also reduced ASB for those living nearby.

“Thanks for your calls ☎ early intervention is key in these circumstances.”
