THIS Friday, April 27 will see the welcome return of the new Strabane food and craft market, featuring an exciting showcase of quality artisan products from the local area.This is the second year of the Derry City and Strabane District Council market that will operate on the last Friday of every month.
The market had previously been located at the Courtyard of the Alley Theatre but has now been relocated to Butcher Street Car Park and will operate from 11am to 5pm and will feature a wide range of stall holders from the town and surrounding district.
In addition to fresh food stalls, there will be a wide selection of artisan craft traders taking part, which really helps to enhance the retail experience for shoppers in Strabane.
Among the food producers showing their wares on Friday will be Crepes N Coffee; Kennedy Bacon; Bake N Joy; the Morelli Pod; Coffee & Cream; Katie’s Cakes and Bakes and the Foyle Bubble Waffle Company.
Craft producers who have signed up to be part of the market include, Shell Art; Doorish Art and Crafts; Nitted Things; Bonanza; Simmering Salts and Keltic Slates.
Encouraging the public to come along and support the market, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council Cllr Maoliosa McHugh said it’s a great way of supporting local businesses and showcasing local produce.
“I think the market is a great idea for the town and a great way for small businesses to get out there, sell their produce and meet the public.
“It’s a great opportunity to buy fresh produce or a homemade gift while at the same time have a coffee or a cup of tea and meet friends for a chat.
“I am very pleased that the Council is continuing with this initiative for a second year and believe the new venue is a very central and accessible location that will help create a buzz in the town centre.”
The market is a Derry City and Strabane District Council initiative aimed at supporting local traders, and follows on from the success of the monthly Walled City Market in Derry.
It is in keeping with Council’s commitment to identifying new opportunities to boost business and the local economy to the benefit of everyone.
The market is an excellent way for the Council to showcase local produce and talent and encourage people in Strabane and the wider rural community to support local cottage industries that operate on their doorstep.
The new location at Butcher Street Car Park will not only accommodate more traders but is more visible and accessible for passing trade and will enhance the wider shopping experience in the town centre.
