A 49-year-old man arrested yesterday by detectives investigating the attempted murder of an off duty police officer in Derry on February 22, 2017 has been released unconditionally.
The suspect was arrested in Creggan area during a swoop by police from the PSNI’s Terrorist Investigation Unit.
The arrest is the fifth made by detectives investigating the ‘New IRA’ attempt to kill the police officer at his home in the Ardnalee area of the city.
An under vehicle improvised explosive device was planted under his car.
The device partially exploded when an Army Technical Officer approached the vehicle to examine it.
Suspects arrested under the Terrorism Act cannot be released on bail.
They must either be charged, released pending report to the Public Prosecution Service or released unconditionally.
