SINN Féin Councillor Eric McGinley has called on people not to use green areas as a dumping ground for unwanted refuse.
Cllr. McGinley said: “Unfortunately the issue of dumping has reared its ugly head in parts of Ballymagroarty in recent days with unwanted refuse being discarded on some of the green areas.
“Apart from being a blight on the landscape the disposal of this rubbish places additional pressure on the budgets of the agencies who have to clean up.
“If people have unwanted household items they can contact Council and request a bulky lift at no cost.
“In relation to other refuse being dumped Council will examine these items to establish where they came from and if traced those responsible will be held accountable.
“I would call on people to show some respect for the environment and the community and to refrain from this type of selfish behaviour,” he added.
