A MAJOR operation was launched yesterday to rescue a man from the River Foyle.
The operation involved Foyle Search and Rescue, PSNI and the NI Ambulance Service.
A man was located and taken to Altnagelvin Hospital for cold water treatment.
Foyle Search and Rescue say on its Facebook page: “At 12:40 hrs yesterday, Wednesday 25/4/18, FSR were tasked by the Police Service of Northern Ireland to reports that a person had been observed entering the River.
“FSR Boat crew conducting search operations on water were diverted to the reported location.
“On arrival the crew located and rescued a male from the river.
“The male was transferred to FSR base at Prehen where he was assessed and treated for Cold Water Shock by FSR Emergency First Responders.
“He was then transferred onward to Hospital by the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service.
“Appreciation to members of the public who activated the Life Ring in the vicinity.
“Appreciation also to CCTV, FSR Staff, the PSNI an Advanced Paramedic and NIAS Ambulance crew for their assistance and quick response to this incident.”
