POLICE in Co Derry are warning the public to on their guard against ‘cold callers/rogue traders’ turning up on their doors.

PSNI Limavady: “We have seen an increase in Cold Callers and Rogue Traders operating in our district.

“These sellers appear to be targeting the elderly in particular. Often offering work and services for a much higher price than is reasonable.

“Our advice to you regarding potential rogue traders:

“If it sounds too good to be true – it probably is.

“If in doubt, ask to see their ID and to speak to their company management to confirm they are who they say they are.

“Do not pay for services you feel pressured into.

“Note any vehicle registration numbers.

“Keep hold of any flyers you receive through your door.

“If you see your neighbour appearing anxious or distressed or visiting the bank accompanied by a trader, ACT!

“Speak with them about what is happening. Contact a relative. Or ring the Police.

“If you see any activity which you find suspicious. Ring 101 and get it reported to Police.

“This could help your neighbour or family member being targeted and potentially losing a lot of their hard earned cash.”
