THE European Union’s Chief Brexit negotiator, Michel Barnier, has arrived in Derry this morning.
It is part of his two-day visit to Ireland to see how Brexit will affect communities, especially those along the border between Derry and Donegal.
Mr Barnier was welcomed this morning in the Guildhall by Mayor Derry City and Strabane District Council Councillor Maoliosa McHugh.
He was accompanied by Sinn Fein’s MEP Martina Anderson.
The Mayor said: “I was very pleased to welcome European Chief Negotiator Michel Barnier to Guildhall today to give updates on the Brexit negotiations.”
Mr Barnier told waiting reporters that the purpose of his visit was to alleviate fears over a hard and the impact that would have on the peace process and the Good Friday Agreement.
He will be meeting with a cross section of business people from Derry and Letterkenny to hear their views on Brexit will affect them in the future.
