A suspicious object left at the home of an elderly couple in Derry this morning has been declared an “elaborate hoax”.
The alert centred on the Drumleck Drive area of Derry which is home to the elderly parents of a serving police officer.
Up to ten homes and residents had to be moved from their homes and were taken to Shantallow community centre while police cordoned off the area.
Army Technical Officers tasked to the scene, examined the object and declared it as an “elaborate hoax”.
The alert has now ended and evacuated residents are returning home.
