POLICE are warning the public to be their guard over a fresh telephone scam.
Officers say they have been made aware that a member of the public has been contacted by persons purporting to be from a telephone company, enquiring about their broadband speeds.
A PSNI spokesperon said: “They said that they required remote access to the persons computer in order to “sort” things.
“At this stage the caller was challenged and they subsequently hung up on the member of the public.
“Thankfully on this occasion no money or personal details were given to the caller. No legitimate company/caller will ever ask you for payment or personal details to your accounts I.e banking, iTunes etc
“Please be vigilant when taking calls of this nature, if it sounds too good to be true – then it more than likely is!!
“Always remember, “If you spot a scam, then you can stop a scam!!”
If you have any concerns about this or for a relative that may have received suspicious calls, then phone police on 101.”
