A 17 year old male has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and theft.
He is expected to appear at Omagh Magistrates Court tomorrow, Monday, May 7, for a first remand hearing
As is usual procedure the charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
The charges follow an attack on Brenda McLaughlin in Railway Street, Strabane during the early hours of Saturday morning, May 5.
Police are treating the brutal incident as a suspected homophobic attack.
Detectives believe she was pinned to the ground by her attacker who then drilled into her head with a cordless drill.
The mother remains in a critical but stable condition in Altnagelvin Hospital.
