POLICE have confirmed that the man who died while running the Belfast City Marathon was Stephen Neil Heaney.
The 50-year-old Limavady man collapsed during the event at the Sydenham bypass, around five miles into the race.
His funeral will take place in Christ Church, Limavady on Friday at 2 pm.
His interment will take place in the adjoining churchyard.
He leaves behind two daughters, Rebecca and Victoria.
Writing on Facebook, his daughter Victoria Heaney called him “a gentleman to everyone he crossed”.
“I hoped that today [Tuesday] I would have been congratulating you on completing your first marathon yesterday,” she wrote.
“God had other plans and decided to take away the best man of my life, a role model, through being a Dad, a supporter, a sports player and a gentleman to everyone he crossed.
“Rest easy Daddy, I love you so much and I’m so proud of you.”
